ECG owns the customer record
The name that appears when you confirm a meter on Ewale comes from ECG’s vending / billing register. Payment apps can display it; they cannot legally rename the account. To change or update customer information you go through ECG (district office, and in limited cases Power App profile fields).
What people usually need to change
- Registered name after purchase of a house or a new tenancy.
- Phone number for SMS tokens and bills.
- Service address if ECG’s record is wrong (affects disconnection visits and postpaid bills).
- Tariff class (residential vs non-residential) — not a DIY form; ECG/PURC rules apply.
District office (authoritative)
Visit the ECG district that serves the property. Typical requirements (confirm locally — desks vary):
- Ghana Card of the person who should be on the account.
- Proof of occupancy or ownership (tenancy, indenture, allocation letter).
- Last bill (postpaid) or last token receipt and meter number (prepaid).
- Letter or statutory declaration if the previous customer is unavailable.
Ask for change of customer details / change of tenancy, not a new meter, unless the meter is actually being replaced. Keep the written job number. Name updates can take days to show on USSD lookup.
Power App and *226#
You can update app login details (PIN, device). That is not the same as the legal account name on the meter. Phone number on the ECG profile may affect OTP; it may not retitle the vend record. Use the district for name and tariff.
What Ewale can and cannot do
Ewale *714*22# lets you pay any valid meter or postpaid account and shows the name ECG currently has. We cannot edit that name. After ECG updates the register, the confirmation screen on your next purchase should show the new details — wait out their processing time before assuming the request failed.
ECG customer care: 0302-611611. Pay bills and tokens anytime on Ewale once the numbers are correct.
