Recharge = buy + enter

Recharging an ECG prepaid meter is two jobs: purchase credit (USSD, app, vendor) and load the token on the meter. Skipping the keypad leaves the house dark even after MoMo success.

Step 1 — Buy the credit

  1. Read the meter number on the sticker (11 or 13 digits).
  2. Dial *714*22# → Utilities → ECG → Prepaid.
  3. Enter the number, confirm the registered name, enter GHS amount (minimum GH₵1).
  4. Approve MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash, or AT Money.
  5. Save the SMS with the 20-digit token.

Alternatives: ECG *226#, Power App, authorised vendor cash, bank bill-pay. Same end state: a 20-digit STS token for that meter.

Step 2 — Load the meter

  1. Use the indoor CIU if this is a split installation.
  2. Enter the 20 digits and confirm. Details: enter token correctly.
  3. Read remaining credit on the LCD. Lights should restore if the only problem was zero credit.

How much to buy

There is no official “days pack.” GH₵20 may last a single room a few days; a fridge and iron will finish GH₵50 faster. Debt recovery and levies on the receipt mean not every cedi becomes kWh. If credit still dies fast, check consumption, not only the recharge channel.

Recharge for someone else

Use their meter number. Token SMS comes to your phone — forward it. You do not need their ECG login.
