Direct answer
Index = who sat. Serial = which voucher. PIN = secret of that voucher. Mixing them is the top typing error in Ghana results week.
WAEC Ghana — Ghana 2026
Written for parents with three numbers on the table. Buy authorised checkers on Ewale *714*22# when you need a voucher. Check only on WAEC’s official portals.
Vital context for “WAEC serial vs PIN vs index”
Ewale SMS carries Serial and PIN. School paper carries index. Phone numbers are none of these.
How WAEC result checkers work in Ghana
WAEC Ghana does not email grades. You buy an authorised result checker voucher, then type Serial, PIN, index number, exam type, and year on the official site. Ewale *714*22# sells BECE and WASSCE/Nov-Dec vouchers by SMS. Price is shown before PIN — treat WhatsApp “GH₵5 checkers” as stolen or fake.
- BECE: eresults.waecgh.org, 10-digit PIN on typical Ewale BECE vouchers.
- WASSCE / NOVDEC: ghana.waecdirect.org, 12-digit PIN on typical Ewale WASSCE vouchers.
Three uses. Official sites only. Never dictate PIN on a call. If the portal is slow on release day, wait and retry — do not buy five extra vouchers from a stranger.
Advice that actually helps
Label a paper: INDEX / SERIAL / PIN. Cover two while typing the third. Do not paste a centre code into index.
The expensive mistake: PIN in the serial box and serial in the PIN box, then buying a new checker immediately.
After the grades are on the screen
When the name matches, save PDF. File the paper.
- Re-type before rebuy.
- Invalid PIN guide.
- No spaces.
Protect the child and the voucher
- Do not paste Serial + PIN in a class or church group.
- Do not pay a site that is not ghana.waecdirect.org (or the matching official WAEC Ghana property).
- Do not buy a second voucher until you have re-typed the first SMS and confirmed the exam type and year.
- Schools should not harvest student PINs “for the office file.” The three uses belong to the candidate.
Stuck after a real debit? Ewale support with the MoMo reference. WAEC grading disputes go to WAEC Ghana, not Ewale.
