Account number is not the prepaid meter number
Customer account number (often on bills as account no. or SPN) identifies a postpaid ECG contract — name, address, monthly bill. Meter number identifies a prepaid device on the vending system. Paying prepaid with a bill account number (or postpaid with a prepaid meter ID) is the usual reason lookup fails.

Where to find the customer account number
- Monthly paper bill: top section — account number, name, service address, amount due.
- Old receipts: bank, MoMo, or district payment slips reprint the same account.
- ECG Power App: the postpaid account you added at registration.
- Tenancy / handover pack: landlords should give the number with the last bill. If they only give a prepaid meter ID, the property may already be prepaid.
- ECG district office: take Ghana Card and proof of occupancy. Staff can look up the account for that address. Call centre: 0302-611611.
How to use it on Ewale
- Dial
*714*22#. - Utilities → ECG → Postpaid (not Prepaid).
- Enter the account number exactly as printed — no spaces.
- Confirm the name shown. Pay the amount due with MoMo.
If lookup fails, you likely typed the prepaid meter ID or a contract that was migrated to prepaid. Check the last bill type, then try Prepaid with the meter sticker instead.
