Payment and token are two steps

Mobile Money success means the wallet was debited. Electricity credit is added only when you (or someone at the house) key the 20-digit token into the prepaid meter. Ghana STS meters do not “see” MoMo directly.

Where the token is delivered

  • SMS to the paying number — default on Ewale *714*22# and most USSD vends. Wait 10–25 seconds on Ewale; *226# and some bank channels can take several minutes.
  • On-screen receipt — ECG Power App and some web checkouts show the digits before or with SMS.
  • Printed slip — district office and authorised vendors.

Forward the SMS if you bought for a tenant. The token is valid for that meter number only.

What a real token looks like

Twenty digits, often grouped in fives (e.g. 12345 67890 12345 67890). Ignore vendor codes, dates, and kWh on the same SMS when typing — only the 20 digits go into the keypad. Do not include the meter number.

After you have the digits

  1. Wake the meter or CIU keypad.
  2. Enter all 20 digits, then the enter / confirmation key for that meter brand.
  3. Wait for accept / credit-added. Then read the new balance on the LCD.

Debited, still no SMS

Wait 15 minutes at peak evening. Check spam. Confirm the MoMo debit. Then retrieve from Ewale history — see token not received and retrieve a lost token. Do not pay again until that vend is found or reversed.
