A token is not gone when the SMS is gone
ECG prepaid tokens are 20-digit STS codes tied to one meter. If you paid, the vend record exists even if you deleted the SMS. Retrieve it. Do not buy a second token for the same payment.
Retrieve on Ewale first
- Dial
*714*22#. - Open Support / transaction history (wording on the menu may be Support or History).
- Find the ECG prepaid debit for that day and amount.
- Ask support to resend the token SMS to the paying number.
Web users: check the same purchase under your Ewale account if you paid on utility checkout.
Other places the 20 digits hide
- SMS archive / spam / promotions: search “token”, “ECG”, or “PIN”.
- MoMo statement: proves the debit and time. It may not reprint the 20 digits — you still need the vend receipt.
- ECG Power App history: if you bought in the app, open payment history for that meter.
- Vendor / district printout: keep the paper. Staff can reprint from the vend terminal if you have the receipt number and meter number.
- ECG prepayment desk: take meter number, ID, and proof of payment. They can reprint a token that has not been used, or confirm it was already loaded.
Used vs unused
If the meter already accepted the token, reprinting it will show “used” or reject on the keypad. Credit is already on the meter — check the LCD. If it was never entered, a reprint is the same 20 digits; enter them once, carefully.
Old tokens from years ago may no longer vend if the meter was replaced. A new meter needs tokens generated for the new meter number.
