What is mobile number portability?

Mobile Number Portability (MNP) lets you switch from one Ghana network to another — MTN, Telecel, AirtelTigo — while keeping your existing phone number. Your prefix may eventually reflect the new network, but the digits you give friends and banks stay the same.

How to port your number

  1. Visit the receiving network's service centre (the network you want to join)
  2. Bring valid ID (Ghana Card) and your active SIM
  3. Request portability — fill porting form
  4. Pay any applicable porting fee (if charged)
  5. Wait for SMS confirmation — porting typically completes within 24–48 hours
  6. Insert new SIM from receiving network when instructed; old SIM deactivates

Before you port

  • Clear outstanding airtime loans (Xtra Time etc.)
  • Withdraw or transfer MoMo balance — wallet does not port automatically
  • Save contacts and back up SMS if needed
  • Register new SIM MoMo wallet after port completes

After porting — airtime & data

Buy airtime and data on your new network via USSD or Ewale *714*22# — works regardless of which network you ported to. See prefix guide to confirm network after port.
