Prepaid vs postpaid — what “bill” means

Postpaid customers receive a monthly ECG bill (credit meter, billed after use). That is the document you “check online.” Prepaid customers do not get that bill. You buy tokens in advance. Checking a prepaid “bill” online will fail — check meter balance and consumption instead.

What you need (postpaid)

  • Your ECG customer account number (also called account / SPN on the printed bill) — not the prepaid meter ID.
  • The name and service address as registered at the district office.

Ways to see the amount due

Printed bill and SMS

The monthly paper bill and any ECG SMS still list amount due, due date, and account number. Photograph it; you will type that account number when you pay.

ECG Power App

After you register and add the postpaid account, the app can show outstanding balance when ECG’s servers respond. It needs a smartphone and data. If login or OTP stalls, you can still pay from the amount on the last bill using USSD.

ECG *226#

Official PowerApp USSD: dial *226# and follow postpaid / bill enquiry if the menu is available. Uptime varies.

District office / customer care

If digital channels show nothing, call ECG on 0302-611611 or visit the district that owns the account. Ask for the current outstanding and the exact account number.

Pay the bill you just checked

Checking and paying are separate. Once you know the amount, dial *714*22# → Utilities → ECG → Postpaid → account number → amount → MoMo PIN. You get an SMS receipt. Details: ECG postpaid bill payment shortcode.

There is no public “type any Ghana phone number and see someone else’s ECG bill” website. If a page asks for your MoMo PIN to “view bill,” it is not ECG — leave.
